Focal Area Leader: Sustainable Water Use

Mr Barry Ball is Deputy Director of the Global Change Institute, and holds the position of Water Policy Manager with the International Water Centre.

In over 20 years of work in the water sector, he has shaped management policy for the Brisbane City Council and developed an extensive knowledge, experience and professional network in Water Management and Water Policy.

Barry is a member of the Griffith School of Environment Professional Advisory Board, the Queensland Urban Utilities Board, the Urban Water Advisory Committee for the National Water Commission, and Chair of the International Water Forum Committee.

Awarded the Australian Public Service Medal for Water Policy (2010)

  • Development of an integrated water model for the region.
  • Establishment of mechanisms for integrated natural resource management in SEQ.
  • Successful advocacy for whole of water approaches in research forums and advisory groups for various CRCs, SEQ Water Security Alliance and National Urban Water Governance Program.
  • Establishment of a SEQ Regional Water Quality Monitoring Program.
  • Formation of a Regional Stormwater Information Group involving universities, local authorities and State Government departments to share knowledge and joint fund tasks.
